For a metropolitan area of this size, there are a surprising number of sushi restaurants — many of them dishing up only marginally fresh fish.

Shige Japanese Cuisine, however, floats to the top of local sushi joints with consistently fresh fish and the skilled sushi twisting of chef Shige Matsuzawa.

The menu contains the usual cast of makis, yakis and tempuras, and the nigiri sushi, sashimi and other rolls are guaranteed to please.

The chef's choice at Shige is always a good one. As Matsuzawa will belt out when welcoming you into this downtown spot, "Irashaimase!"
