SHIGE JAPANESE CUISINE

The restaurant industry can be more flaky than fashion. People flock to the latest thing, but they always seem to find their way back to the places that never disappoint.

Shige is one of those places. It has been open for more than a decade in the same place with the same decor and many of the same people rolling sushi, serving and throwing out a rousing "Domo!" as you walk out into the Downtown Boise fray.

The chefs and staff are always coming up with innovative rolls named after their particular inspirations.

For those who don't like raw fish, Shige has spectacular cooked options, from tempura shrimp to decadent barbecued eel to geoduck baked with scallions and cream cheese. And for those who don't like rice, the Volcano Roll is a rice-less delight that will leave your mouth watering.

While other restaurants flash in the pan, Shige continues to burn as hot as the sake (perhaps because most nights, its namesake is on the job).
